A Caring Hand and a Gentle Touch

Keeping Your Four-Legged Friend Healthy With Regular Veterinarian Visits

Having pets in your home means having a veterinarian to care for them and provide preventative care to ensure they stay healthy. Pets are part of the family in most homes and ensuring they get the care they need is essential. There are times when finding a new veterinarian is necessary, and finding one you are comfortable with is vital.

Checkup And General Care

When you have pets, their care becomes your responsibility, and providing medical and health care is crucial. A dog or cat not given any preventative care throughout their lifetimes can develop serious health conditions that can eventually become problematic and affect their overall health.

The cost of a good veterinarian can be worth the expense if you find one that you know is providing the best care possible for your furry friends. In many cases, vet care starts with vaccinations, preventative medications for heartworm or flea and tick prevention, checkups to ensure the animal is healthy, and spaying or neutering services when your pet is old enough for it.

The vet visit is not that unlike taking your kids to the doctor, and your vet is looking for the same types of things in your pets as they grow. The goal is to keep them healthy and happy and let them live a long life with their family.

First Visits

When starting out with a new veterinarian, you will often have a new patient visit that involves a routine checkup for your pet, including a history of health issues or care and the basic information about them. The vet tech in the office will often weigh your cat or dog and ask many questions about their general well-being before the vet comes to see them.

When the veterinarian comes into the room, they will often spend a little time with your pet to get a sense of their overall health and check their heart, lungs, and abdomen for any signs of health issues. You may also need to bring a stool sample in to be analyzed by the lab, and in some cases, they may want to draw blood to run tests if the animal is in any distress.

For younger pets, you may have a follow-up visit in a few months to continue to monitor their growth and development. Older animals often can have a yearly checkup and care as needed to ensure they stay healthy. If you have any concerns, you can schedule an appointment at any time, but the vet will typically let you know how often they need to see them and when you should consider another appointment for your pet.
