A Caring Hand and a Gentle Touch

Five Things To Consider When Choosing An Animal Clinic

There are a lot of great animal clinics out there. This is a good thing — it means there are lots of opportunities for pets to get the vet care they need! However, the abundance of good animal clinics also makes it harder for you to pick the best one for your needs. Here are some tips to help you consider your options and choose the clinic that works best for you.

Pick a clinic that's easy to drive to.

Of course, you want to pick a clinic that's close to your home, but you also want to consider how easy the clinic is to drive to. If one clinic is 2 miles away, but you have to drive through busy traffic and down many one-way streets to get there, you may be better off going to the clinic that's 3 miles away down a straight, open road. Keep in mind that you may be driving to the clinic when stressed out and worried about your pet's health — so you want the drive to be easy, if possible.

Choose a clinic with multiple vets.

At most clinics, each patient is assigned one vet that sees and treats them. So you may not think it really matters if the clinic employs one vet or ten vets. But, if you go to a clinic with multiple vets, then you may get more prompt care during urgent, but not-quite-emergency situations. If your pet's normal vet is not in that day, the clinic can make you an appointment with one of their other vets.

Pick a clinic that treats all of the types of animals you have.

If you have a dog and a cat, then look for a clinic that treats both. This is much simpler than having a separate vet for each animal. If you have an exotic pet, like a lizard, finding a clinic that treats them might be a little harder. However, most clinics that do treat these more exotic animals also treat more common pets, like dogs and cats, so you should still be able to set all of your pets up at the same place. This simplifies billing, and you may even be able to bring all of your animals for their checkups on the same day.

Choosing a vet clinic is not always easy. But if you consider how easy the clinic is to reach, and you choose a multi-vet clinic that can care for all of your pets, you will definitely be on the right track. For more information about visiting an animal clinic, reach out to a local facility.
